April marks Stress Awareness Month, and for business owners, this is not something to scroll past.
It is something to take seriously.
Because stress in the workplace is not just a people issue. It is a performance issue, a retention issue, and ultimately, a business issue.
And yet, it is often the thing that gets pushed aside.

No matter the size of your business, stress has a way of building beneath the surface.
Deadlines, growth pressure, financial responsibility, client expectations, and constant decision-making. It all adds up.
And when that pressure is not recognised or supported, it can lead to:
There is also a clear responsibility here.
As a business owner in the UK, you have a duty of care when it comes to your employees’ wellbeing, including mental health.
But beyond that, there is a more important question to ask:
Because those two things do not sit together.
A team operating under constant stress will default to survival mode. And survival mode does not drive creativity, growth, or innovation.
This is where many businesses feel unsure. They know it matters, but they are not always clear on what action to take.
The reality is, it does not need to be complicated.
In many cases, the most effective changes are simple and human:
There are organisations dedicated to helping businesses better support stress and mental wellbeing in the workplace. For example:
We have been collaborating this month with The Stress Management Society, a UK organisation focused on tackling stress through education, resources, and workplace support.
They offer practical guidance, run webinars, and provide tools that businesses can implement in a meaningful way.
For many organisations, this kind of support can make a real difference without needing extensive internal resource.
At Plenty of Stuff Studio, we have been actively raising awareness throughout April. Not as a box-ticking exercise, but because we see the impact of stress on business owners and teams every day.
Kiana, our director, has recently become an ambassador for The Stress Management Society, helping to champion better conversations around workplace stress and support.
Throughout the month, we have been:
We also released a podcast episode this month exploring stress and perspective with a specialist, which you can read more about here.
Supporting Stress Awareness Month is not about being soft.
It is about being intentional.
Because when people feel supported, they perform better. They stay longer. They contribute more. And your business grows in a way that is sustainable.
So if April has prompted even a moment of reflection, do not ignore it.
Use it.
Because the businesses that succeed long term are not the ones that push the hardest at all costs.
They are the ones that take care of their people while they grow.
